I was on the street testing out the new biking computer for the first time and was going about 29 MPH (Downhill grade and pounding the pedals, but I think maybe I've set it wrong, isn't 29 MPH fast for downhill even?)
Anyway, I am going fast and hit a curb with the side of my tire. Busted my lip and bled all over, but luckily a truck stopped and rode me home because I felt too shook up at that time to ride. Oh well, back on the bike tonight going to work.
Just wanted to vent. Thanks for listening. (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bummer about the crash. Glad that you got back on quickly. As far as 29mph being fast for downhill, I would say that is about right. I find that its not hard at all to get over 30 on a slight downhill, in fact on my big hill this morning I hit 46.5 Very thrilling!!!

29 mph is easy for a down hill, I did better last night. Of course the quick uphill brough me back to 12 in a hurry.

Sorry to hear it and two things jump out at me 1. pay attention to the road not your gagets when you are going fast, and 2. You're riding too close to close to the curb.

Yeah, I know, the gadgets are so fun to be distracted by. ^_^
Also, I hit the curb on one of those little grassy island things. I usually ride with 2 feet or so on my right so people can see me. Doesn't stop them from yelling "GET ON THE SIDEWALK" though. (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good way to calibrate your computer is to have a car shadow you. On my way to work one morning, I had a car behind me going down the big hill. As we came up on the light he rolled down his window and yelled, "dude!!! do you know you were going 47mph???!!!"
I think his spedometer was a bit off, or he was rounding up, because my gps was clocking me at around 45.7 mph, but close enough.
In terms of the wreck, I sure as heck wouldn't want to hit a curb at 30, nevermind at over 40. Glad you didn't get hurt more than you did. Park your butt in the center of the lane and keep a straight line.

Wow, I'm glad you walked away with only minor injuries. Hitting a curb is something that I've done at slow speeds when I wasn't paying attention. I'm not sure exactly how it happened for you, but you need to be very alert and cautious at those speeds.
I routinely go 35mph on the downhill portion of my commute.

I Smashed into a monstrous pothole while checking something on my computer, bent my rim. It was nighttime so i should have probably waited. oh well

Precisely why I don't run with any.
-I don't expect to be breaking the speed limit, hence, a speedometer is unnecessary.
-I know when I need to fill-up with food, don't need a gas gauge.
-A/C controls have one setting on a bike, and that's natural ventilation.
-Do motorists hook themselves up to a computer to find out what their heart rate is when flooring their '67 Olds 442? No, they don't.
-Don't need no noisy, stinkin' dash clock that's never on time. Cell phone in pocket does that job.
-There isn't anything good on the radio anyway. (I never saw the point in distracting one's self with music while handling a vehicle of any kind, for that matter).
-Headlight switch is on my headlight.

Good points Kurt. I use the computer to see how many miles I go mostly and to see improvements on my times to and from work. I'm hoping to get it down to a fifteen minute ride so I can say that I can get to work in the same time on a bike as in a car.
Looking back on the crash, it was avoidable, but I'm still new to the whole road riding thing. Also, a truck pulled over to make sure I was okay and rode me home because I was kind of dazed, but I looked back and a large angry woman was laying on her horn giving us dirty looks. It's amazing how little people care anymore. :/

I stopped using a computer, too depressing.
