  • Just a Reminder About Using Caution Crossing Railroad Tracks
    By:admin
Yesterday I had to make a 911 ambulance call for a guy who went down in front of me on some RR tracks running almost parallel to the road. He was wearing a helmet but it wasn't a factor, it never touched the ground. He did a faceplant and messed up his nose and his front teeth. We helped stop the bleeding, he blacked out momentarily, the Fire Dept. medics were on the scene within five minutes, and an ambulance about five minutes later.

Thanks for the reminder. I always slow down and cross tracks as perpendicularly as possible.

Last week someone on a 1200k ride broke his hip on some railroad tracks. I've gone down fast and hard on railroad tracks that weren't dry.

    What did he do wrong?

Last week someone on a 1200k ride broke his hip on some railroad tracks. I've gone down fast and hard on railroad tracks that weren't dry. Ditto this, I got caught a couple of months ago. The street was dry in the morning but the tracks had dew on them, it just kicked my front wheel out to the side.

I only cross one set of tracks during my day and am always very cautious when doing so.

They happen to be on one of the busiest streets I ride and going down in traffic here would be a nightmare during rush hour.
