  • Which Knog light is the safest (in relation to how much it costs)?
    By:admin
Frog, Skink, Bullfrog, Beetle, Gekko, Toad, Boomer?

Not familiar with any other knog lights, but the frogs are worthless. I see those all the time on bikes as excuses for lighting... Most you can't tell they even have lights until you're right up on them.

My Bullfrog is pretty good as something that will get me seen, but doesn't light up the road in front of me all that well. I have a couple of Gekkos too; same deal. But I've been spoiled since I got a Niterider...

I've got a bullfrog in red as a rear blinky. Adequate, but not the biggest or brightest. Easy to get on and off.

How much is your life worth? Depends on how much wattage you deem sufficient.

Knog lites are crap except as fashion statements

The Austin police department has apparently been ticketing cyclists (for no lights) who have only a Frog light, saying they're not bright enough.

The letter of the law says "visible at 500 feet" -- which is a pretty low bar, and I'd say even the Frogs satisfy the letter of the law -- so I think these people should contest their tickets, but I'd still suggest getting a better light, both front and back.
