  • China Executes Hit and Run Killer.

It was not the hit-and-run that got the driver executed - it was the fact that he got out of his car and stabbed to death the 26 year old waitress and mother because he feared the "peasant woman would be hard to deal with".

The report does not state if he stabbed the woman with a knife that he was already carrying or if he improvised with something else.

See there... the hit and run was free... it was the stabbing that caused the execution.

Just like here... kill a cyclist and you are free... unless you are drinking alcohol... or stabbing. (not sure about stabbing offense in the US)

Just like here... kill a cyclist and you are free... unless you are drinking alcohol... or stabbing. (not sure about stabbing offense in the US) I got a different impression from the story. That the student felt that there would have been a fairly severe penalty for the initial accident in civil and/or criminal terms and therefore opted to stab her to escape prosecution. If he had thought he could just tell the police that he didn't see the cyclist and not be charged, as in the US, then there would have been no motive for the stabbing.

The collision was a minor one according to the report, clearly not worthy of the death sentence, maybe a fine, loss of license, driver ed. ect.. The murder was a whole 'nother thing, I think the death penalty was well deserved.

I'm just impressed with how quickly they handled it. We have a lot of guys sitting on death row for crimes that happened last century while this guy is already room temperature for one that happened last October.

Maybe I missed it, but where was the hit and run aspect of this crime? From what I read, the driver hit the cyclist causing only minor damage/injury, but "fearing" that the "peasant woman" would be "difficult to deal with" killed her at the scene. He didn't track her down and kill her, he killed her after hitting her.

And doesn't (at least here in the States) his motive for stabbing the woman make his crime premeditated murder?

Agreed, and the irony is that he likely would have gotten off with little more than a slap on the wrist had he not killed her.

We have a lot of guys sitting on death row for crimes that happened last century while this guy is already room temperature for one that happened last October. Ah, but thanks to DNA evidence some of those folks who have been sitting on death row have been cleared of the crime that got them on death row in the first place. So isn't it worth taking a little longer to make damn sure that the right person gets executed for the crime?
