That's more like it! If only we all lived in China
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, stabbed her to death after he hit her!!! Can't say he didn't deserve what he got...
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow...6 week turn around time from sentence to execution...gotta appreciate that judicial expediency.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
    move to china then
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
    A) This China, not the West.

    B) Had he not stabbed her afterwards, he wouldn't have even gotten a traffic summons.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Dislike.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow...6 week turn around time from sentence to execution...gotta appreciate that judicial expediency. Only if we had that here, our schools might not be bankrupt
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
    I forecast imminent lockage.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
wtf kinda sick person is this? stabbing someone to silence her. makes me sick. he got what he desereved. we live in a sick world i tell ya.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was executed for stabbing the woman to death, not for hitting her with the car.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Welcome to A&S.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was really executed for murder - to avoid paying compensation to someone he hit with his car!? The world is better off without him!
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
I read that this has brought up a lot of resentment in China towards the richer class who seem to be able to do what they want with impunity. THat this man thought he would just kill this poor woman just to avoid problems- it's an incredible display of hubris and disregard for human life. She was poor so her life was discardable.

I will stop short of saying that it's good that the state is killing him, but it's good that he wasn't able to get away with it due to class privilege.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
    A) This China, not the West. The West could very well have responded in the same way. He intentionally killed her -- premeditated first degree murder. And not with a car, but with a knife.

Juries are merciful to drivers who accidentally kill pedestrians/cyclists/motorists/etc in collisions because they're usually drivers too, and they could make the same mistake. But this is not such a case -- this was a actual murder that most people can't sympathize with.

    B) Had he not stabbed her afterwards, he wouldn't have even gotten a traffic summons. Well, she wasn't seriously injured. He could have just given her some money to make her happy and not call the police. Though it does sound like he wouldn't get a ticket even if she did call the police.

Looks like my subtle sarcasm went unnoticed. I thought that this thread had some potential in general discussion.

Yeah, the guy is being executed because he stabbed the woman. Obviously this doesn't have much to do with cycling and doesn't belong in this subforum. Sorry!
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
My experience is that when you write a post with some thought and nuance, people generally don't respond. You'll get a response on the internet if you post something that provokes a knee-jerk reaction- something perceived to be judgmental, or hostile, or deliberately controversial.

Internet forums usually aren't the place if you want an open exchange and a healthy debate. Though fortunately this isn't always the case.

You can read more about the incident here. My favorite part of the article is
Police said she suffered only slight injuries from the traffic accident, including a fracture of her left leg. The Chinese are tough if they consider a fractured left leg only a slight injury!
