  • Legal or Not (POLL)
    By:admin
Is this a legal pedestrian or a bicycle crossing?
Forget the poll part. I just want to know your opinion.

Here in our fine state of Minnesota bicyclists are treated as pedestrians on sidewalks. AKA riding your bike in a crosswalk.

    Crossing

    Two choices:
    Ride on State Hwy 55
    Ride on Hennipen County 9

Well there was a no left turn sign where you turned left, and there is NO crosswalk.

Frankly this appears to be the typical thinking that terminates bike paths into streets and yet doesn't treat that as an intersection.

But I can't be sure with just the limited view offered.

i don't know, wheel- you're crossing a divided highway in a spot the layout is such it requires a 'michigan left'.

as to being treated like peds on wheels, if you looked into Minnesota DOT and its bikeway design guidance you would see bicyclists are treated significantly better than as peds on wheels.

this is a hard question to answer since the majority us on here don't know the specifics of bike laws where you live. I would guess that in the majority of states what was done would not be legal due to you riding on a road which in turn requires you to follow and obey the same rules/laws (sign showing No left turn) as any other vehicle on that road. I say this because here in Az that would not be legal for a person on a bike to do what was done in the vid. JMO

So, you basically just crossed a street? There was no crosswalk. You were not walking. You need to follow whatever vehicle laws apply at that street.

In general..... If you are walking a bike you are a pedestrian. If you are riding a bike you are a vehicle.

This looks like a cheap bandaid solution in order to reduce vehicular collision incidents, effectively cutting this roadway in two, and typical of autocentric thinking.

Not legal for a vehicle driver and you were not 'acting' as a pedestrian.

(as to there not being a marked crosswalk, there may not need to be one for crossing as a pedestrian to be legal, depending on local laws)

not legal for motor vehicles, possibly legal for bicyclists and pedestrians, certainly expedient and adaptive.
