Hi guys,
I think I cut a Sram PC 99 one link short and don鎶 know how to or if I can add one link back or what. I was supposed to leave one full link overlapping after wrapping the chain around the big chain ring and the biggest cog, right?
However, I also had the Powerlink and the instruction that come with the chain said that it counts as ?a link so I thought that I had to leave only ?a link overlapping the Powerlink. What I did not notice is that the Powerlink replace the external plates of the link and only connect two of the internal plates so now to put it together I would need to take out another 1/2 link leaving me with 0 overlap the Powerlink which I think would be too short. Is there any way I can fix this? I don鎶 think I can reuse one of the links because the rivets are now weak, right?

Put it together and try the big/big. if the derailer cage is not at full extension it's ok.

You may be able to put a link back in on an SRAM chain. Shimano chains require the special replacement rivets. If you completely removed the rivet, you may have a hard time getting it started back into a sideplate though.
You could certainly elect to use the chain as is. Since you surely know better than to use the big-big gear combination, your chain should work OK.

Buy another PowerLink.

I added a link back with care and it seemed to go back in fine. It is the closest link to the Powerlink so if the chain eventually breaks there I will know that it was not a good idea to put that pin back. Thanks for the responses!

Yeah, but stuff happens. And when it does it can be uglly and cost alot more than a chain.
