  • Bridgestone ID Help
    By:admin
Found a Like new Bridgestone road bike today at a church rumage sale. I asked how much? the lady said you are the first person to even ask a price. She said $5.00 too much? I got it home started wiping the dust off there are no marks on paint it had been hanging in a storage building all these years. The tires are bad but other than that it looks brand new. Now the Question what do I have can't find much info HELP??? Is this a good bike and is it worth up grading if needed?

    Top tube says: Livius
    Frame Double Butted 413 Cromo
    Group: SunTour
Rear Derailler: Cyclone M II , 12 speed
    Bars: Nitto
    Wheels: Araya 700c
    Brakes: Bridgestone Side pull

The bicycle should be 1981-1983, if the rear derailleur is original, as the Mk II version of the Cyclone came out in 1981 and Bridgestone went to a numerical model designation in 1984. However, the Bridgestones from this period were usually named after stars (as in the sky) and a quick Google for stars named Livius did not turn up anything. However, there was a Sirius model with the same tubing, derailleurs, rims and brakes as you describe. Could you have misread the model name?

Generally, the popular Bridgestones are the models from the late 1980s and early 1990s, when Grant Peterson was doing the design work. However, the Sirius is a nice mid-range model (original $500 US in 1983) that's a steal at $5.00! Good tubing, good wheels and one one the best shifting of the pre-index derailleurs. Quite light too, at an advertised 23 lb for the 23" frame. This qualifies as a "Catch of the Day".

Sheldon Brown has full scans of all the pages of the Bridgestone catalogs from 1987 - 1984 on his website at http://www.sheldonbrown.com/bridgestone/. You might find something in them that helps identify your bike.

Thanks for the info. I re-checked the name it is writen and hard to tell a couple of the letters. I was thinking I might have purchased a good bike for once. IT is my size 58 cm, and is a brown matelic color. I dont know if it helps but the serial # starts with a Cxxxxxx. Also the left rear drop out is marked wit the bridgestone name. Again thanks for all the info.
