If you're like me, you have occasion to sometimes toss the crap 27" wheels on some bike and fit some 700Cs. Then the problem with brake reach crops up. I've had some luck with the Nashbar/Tektro "long reach" dual-pivot jobs when I'm going with modern calipers, but the 56-57mm max reach is sometimes just a hair short. I've even made a number of custom drop-bolts from stainless steel bar stock, drillpress, taps and dies...but just recently came across this huge Tektro 556 that has a massive 75mm max reach and loads of clearance. Think you haven't seen these because they've just been released. According to a blurb by Grant Petersen in the latest Rivendell Reader, Rivbike is responsible for the design of these. He's hoping they find a good market so that Tektro (and Rivendell*) will be able to continue stocking them. I agree. But Petersen's reason for designing them was to come up with a brake that not only could accomodate different wheel sizes, but also allow for the use of fenders with a good dual-pivot break. I, too, hope they take off. Buy some. Report back.
*The Rivendell versions are not emblazoned with the branding across the top of the brake arm.

I just may do that, it would solve several problems in one stroke on my Holdsworth 6spd "beater". Like I could run regular width fenders instead of the cheesy plastic clip-ons currently clipped on, and decent modern composition brake pads. Also dug around and found that Kogswell is endorsing them, too, for their 650B Porteur bike. I made a typo, the max reach is listed as 73mm, still plenty big enough for me.

Do they have the recessed allen bolt mounting hardware or the old school nut and bolt? I bought some long reach Tektros that have the newer recessed allen bolt and can't use them because I don't want to drill up the brake holes on my Witcomb.

Pretty sure it's recessed Allen nuts, I have a set on order and am prepared to drill out the fork and bridge on my Holdsworth. I don't have any qualms about that cause I reckon it's "reversible" simply by using a nice thick washer that covers the bigger holes if I go back to the old brakes. I've also done the drilling enough to feel pretty good about getting clean results, the brake bridge is tricky. I have a right-angle drill attachment for that.
