I'm curious. How many fellow riders do you see in a day on your commute? Please mention your city.
I'm going to start keeping tabs starting tomorrow, but I have to say, it would be 10 on a good day in cleveland. ()

Seeing as how I'm in NYC, even though I bike on a particularly desolate patch of road, I'd still guess 10-15. In the busy areas of midtown manhattan? forget about it, you lose count at 50.

1, if I happen to pass a store-front with reflective windows.

Yep, this would be a normal day for me too. Now and then, I see one or two others. Not very often.

Here in Reno, I generally see 3-5 during my afternoon commute home.

In the summer it is 4-5. In the winter 1, but I know there are more (2-3) out there in the winter because I see their tracks in the snow.
That would be in/around Dayton Ohio.

Sigh. That's sad. Where are you @ drroe?

If I see another person on a bicycle they're probably riding for fun not transportation. I ride three miles to work in Opelika, Alabama (pop. 30,000).
And I've never seen anyone else riding a fixed gear, which I've started commuting with.
There's a fair amount of cyclists here, but most of those into bicycle commuting are in neighboring Auburn where the University is at.

I generally see 5-10 other cyclists on the road in San Jose. Most of them are roadies, with a few MTB's thrown in. They span the spectrum: A few are in matching shorts and jerseys, with bikes that weight less than my cranks. Others are poor, riding beaters with no helmets and their lunch hanging from the bars in a shopping bag. Still others are commuters, and then there's me: A dude on a recumbent with his mirrors, an amber strobe, and a red bag.

Not many here. I know they are out there, maybe at different times or routes. I may see another commuter once a month if that.

I live in New Jersey and commute into New York City. In my neighborhood, the only people riding to work are poor Mexicans going crosstown because there are no buses that head in that direction. People think I'm broke and down to my last cent but that's the attitude of this car culture where the cyclist is considered a broken loner.
When I arrive in New York City, there are so many bike commuters, as one poster made a point, you'll lose count real fast.

There are 3 guys I usually see every day on the commute - 1 in the morning, the other 2 in the afternoon. On a busy day I've seen up to about 7 or 8.

L.A. To be fair, though, I don't commute every day, as I'm a consultant. But on a commute to a client from Brentwood to Beverly Hills I see no one.
