At 4:30PM, the temperature was reading 113F/45C. No biggee, but ugh - a near record for the date.

So, at 5:00, I get my gear together and change, and then glance up at the temp - it's now a relatively mild 103F/39C ! Woo-hoo! When I get outside, I can see why - the slightly overcast of the morning has become the cloudy afternoon. Better and better - no beating sun!

So, I take off, and think to myself, "Self, you are getting studly! Look how fast you're going!" Then, I realize - I've got a tail wind! I never get a tail wind, so I hammer on, taking full advantage of the cool weather and tail wind.

Pretty soon, I'm dripping sweat. Drip, drip, drip. Hey, sweat that ain't - it's rain! "...!" Sprinkles from a gentle, desert shower tickle my nose for the next five minutes. Nothing major, but what a treat!

10 deg. drop in temp, a tail wind, and a light, refreshing shower - a very happy solstice, indeed!

Sounds like a treat. I grew up in Phoenix and I miss the smell of the creosote bushes when it rains.

yeah - there are whole swaths of phoenix that don't even have sidewalks. When you see someone walking in Phx, the rebuttable presumption is that the person is homeless. I used to hate that when I would take the bus. But ah, those summer rains!!

A strong headwind and no rain for me, but yeah, no sun. I'll take what I can get.

I was actually disappointed to get picked up last night as that beautiful tailwind was going right in the direction I was going!

Yeah yesterday I left at 4:30p and was surprised that it was only about 109, but I got zero rain, not a drop, but I was concered about the darkening skys as I didn't have head or taillight with me. I had a headwind going north though, a warm dusty one. Monday it was 113 at 5pm and it did feel warmer.

Todays (Wed) Forcast: Scattered clouds with the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm developing this afternoon. Very hot. High near 115F. ESE winds shifting to SW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

This is a graph of temp over the past 24 hours at my work. Check out the drop at 5:00 PM yesterday.

I thought the east wind would die down, but I had an headwind coming in today, plus a 93F temp at 5:30.

I thought the east wind would die down, but I had an headwind coming in today, plus a 93F temp at 5:30. It cooled down similarly, but a bit later in the Tempe area. I enjoyed a cool drink at 5:30p on my patio tool cool down after my ride home at 5:30pm while it was about 100deg in the shade and thought about how a 100deg dry heat with a breeze is so pleasant, but a 115 dry heat in the sun is like the blast one gets in the face when opening a hot oven to check if the cookies are done.

Once again, I can't wait to see the graph of your ride home on a hot day.
