Just curious how many of you guys here work graveyard shift or something similar? Currently I work 6pm-3am but starting Sunday, I'm going to be working midnight-8am. I honestly can't wait as for me those two times seem to be the best times to ride. Humidity and temperature are always tolerable at those times and it seems that when we get rain it's not usually during those times. Even better, I'll have the opportunity to ride the bus either to or from work should I need to (our buses run til midnight).

I usually work 4 p.m. to midnight. The ride home is always pleasant. Cooler, less traffic on the road, etc. I rarely encounter pedestrians on the multi-use path that I take for part of the way.
Several co-workers tell me the only reason they don't ride is because they perceive it to be dangerous at night. I think daytime is far worse.

I work 10 to 10. Two weeks daytime and two weeks at night, starting on saturday night or sunday morning. The 12 hour shift means I work 4 day one week and only 3 the second week. The nice thing is when I finish my night shift on the second week, I have the rest of the day and 4 more days off until my next daytime shift. I bring my stuff to work and leave on a small tour from work
I much prefer the night commute. Daytime sunday is nice too as there's no traffic in the industrial area.

as long as you stay visible, riding at night is no less safe than riding during the day. Plus there's less traffic, less foot traffic, cooler air, beautiful night sky, etc. I really like riding at night, to be honest. Plus I'm a night owl anyway and I generally stay up late.

Normally I work 4 10 hour shifts (10 pm-8am). Wed thru sat one week, sun thru wed the following. This means I work 8 nights, then have six off, repeat. Kinda like 2 weeks off a month. -When I'm not stuck working extra/being on call, that is.
I've worked 5 nights per week, 2 off, in the past. Couldn't stand it.
My least favorite of days, evenings or night shifts is evening shifts. The entire "day" seems gone.

I work 12.5 hour shifts as does Eric of Montreal. But, instead of rotating weeks. We rotate day/night 12.5 hour stints every couple days. But in between that swap we have off 2 or 3 days. Not always easy . But, you sort of grow to like the short work week..

10 nights a month I work/live on the mountain with 6PM to 3-8AM shifts. No bike up here, though.

I work a rotating shift through th eweek. The first two days of my week are grave shifts from 10pm to 6am. So, I went and got a new 16w CygoLite.

Just curious, but what kind of work do you guys do that have the alternating night/day shifts, and the schedules that allows six days off between working days?
I worked 4 10 hour shifts at a previous job and absolutely loved the extra day off every week once I adjusted to the longer work day. I also had days off during the week there, which I also miss. My current job is the usual business schedule though.

7:30-7:30 two day shifts then two night shifts. Going home after the night shifts is rough for me (but I do it). I do like the 4 on 4 off schedule.

I used to do the graveyards, and loved the ride in, but hated the ride home. It was always against traffic (they are going into downtown, I'm leaving) and none of them had enough caffine yet. Give me a drunk driver over one that's not awake yet and checking their voicemail any day. I felt safer riding at night, too, because my lights and their lights meant that we both knew where the other was. I could 'see' a car a block to my left behind a building because their lights were reflecting off of something...
