Two Chicagoans take the high road for animal welfare (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
These guys get my vote. One thing I've learned about people who abuse animals is that generally, it's a reflection of their attitude to people as well.
Every darned year we read of horror stories of the abuse the dancing bears suffer in the middle east and eatern europe. But every darned year, you get a$$hole tourists queuing up to watch them.

Over here ther have been studies ( and in the states too I think) showing a definite progression from cruelty to animals to assaults on humans. (Dahmer anyone?).
This whole area should be taken more seriously.

I remember the class (required in Michigan) my fiancee and I had to take before we could get our marraige license. It was a fairly silly class but I did learn that some study had been done formalising the theory that people who abused animals had a higher percentage of committing spousal abuse along with deep-rooted psychopathic tendencies.

You need a marriage licence over there?

Pretty crazy innit? you need the permission of the state to wed, heh.

Yep... and also to get one, you have to swear that you're not an idiot (they literally ask you that). I guess there's a lot of illegal fraud marraiges in this country. (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
A bit ironic, a license needed to wed, but anyone can have a kid...

Even more ironic in that the whole "you cannot wed if you've been medically classified as an idiot" thing is meant to decrease the possibility of genetically transferring idiocy... as if idiots can't be born out of wedlock.

that whole thing just sounds so 1930's eugenics...

It might catch me out though. I've often said that I'd only get married under very special circumstances:
i.e. a bride from o/s who wouldn't be allowed to stay in the country unless she was married. Of course, I'd need to be bribed, but I wouldn't want money, just a beautiful 18 year old bridesmaid that I could run off and commit adultery with immediately after the wedding.
I kinda think the whole marriage thing is a sham anyway. Like I need a piece of paper to tell me how I feel about someone.

In that sense, I kind of agree. As far as the paper thing is concerned... it's not to tell you how you feel about someone. It's really to tell other people... mainy the state... and mainly about a legal/financial/tax status more than anything else really.

It's also to tell you that your new bride has the enforcement powers of the state behind her. If she walks she takes half of your net worth with her...
