  • What brake lever has longest cable pull?
    By:admin
    Hi,

Sorry to ask a silly question, and I apologize if this sort of thing is an unwelcome intrusion, but I'm a special effect & puppet designer who uses lots of cable and pullers and am having difficulty getting a straight answer.

What brake lever has longest cable pull?
The best I got from dealers was "any V brake lever" will pull 31 mm. Is this true? Is there any with longer pulls?

    Thanks for any info

I think Paul's Love levers have alot more pull than shimano or sram levers

the avids have adjustable cable pull....not sure what it is at the longest pull position...might be worth looking into though. It's mainly designed to allow you to adjust the feel of the lever with the pull of the lever...but it does change how much cable is pulled.

Unfortunately I'm not as good as that shop that gave you an exact measurment on how much cable they pull.

Yes, the Avids are something to look at. I have avids but the pull on Pauls is still greater than the avids--but the adjustability of the avids might be useful

Maybe this would increase the amount of travel to what you need?

Use linear-pull brakes with any levers, or get smoother braking from your linear-pull brakes-and-levers sets. Use the Roller setting to replace the 鎼塷odle?and decrease cable friction with linear-pull brakes and levers. Or use the Travel Doubler setting to allow the use of linear-pull brakes with any levers (ideal for 鎱秗oss bikes and tandems). Sold individually. Wt: 21g. Silver (SIL). USA

    Thanks folks,

I think the Avid speed dial 5 is the thing for my use. The bang for the buck ratio of paying 3 times the price for the Pauls doesn't make sense for me. Like anyone, what I save goes in my pocket!

FWIW, Avid told me they adjust from 25 to 32 mm.

Bobatin: the Travel Agent is way cool! I've machined widgets to do just that, but off the shelf is better! I definitely try it out.

Just outa curiosity...do you ride too? If not...get a bike man! LOL...Glad we could help!
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes I ride, but not seriously. I hang with some folks who do though. My main thing is whitewater kayaking and there's some overlap. Sometimes we even leave a bike at the bottom of the run to get back to the car.

Most of my riding these days is around the city on a heavy Taiwanese Motiv MB I got at Costco. Cheap enough that it's no thief magnet or great loss but has the bottom end Shimano hardware, better than the ToysRUs bikes. I look at it this way, the weight makes any ride a better workout!

Again, thanks to all for your help. And if any of you see the Broadway production of "Wicked" later this year, some of the mechanisms in the giant Wizard head will be controlled by Avid brake levers.
