Looks like a good bike, take care of it!
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sweet - it's a nice scoot. You're going to enjoy it!
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
YES! that is a good bike! start saving right away!
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
How about the Kona Caldera it has better wheels, a few better components and better fork, for same list price. Not sure how it compares to the cost at a LBS off-hand but probably pretty close. Unless there is a reason you are sticking with GT.

    http://www.konaworld.com/2k4bikes/2k4_caldera.cfm

Or specialized Stumpjumper is about in same price range and better components and fork

    http://www.specialized.com/SBCBkMode...qmjmjli.j27004

Or about same quality components and fork for a few hundred less
    http://www.specialized.com/SBCBkMode...qmjmjli.j27004

Or Jamis Komodo with XT/Avid Disk build kit for a bit more..
    http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product.asp?number=18837
Can have fun building the bike and no everything on it from the ground up..

Just giving you some options here,
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
you know PTerman, I have seen the photos of you, and of you doing some pretty aggressive things to your bike, and you seem to very concerned with strength, mebbe you should look at something like the specialized p.2 or something with a bit more heavy dutyness to it.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
That is a super bike. My LBS has a couple and they are excellent value (at least at the prices they offer them at). I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The zaskar was my dream bike ~8 years ago when i first got into mtn biking. A pure racing bike, amazingly light for there time (sub 22lbs) and but numbing stiff.

I agree with phatman, for your type of riding, check out the p.2, great bike, and it will handle all the abuse you can give it.
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey PTman, I agree, I would look at a beefier bike for you. If you are a die-hard GT fan, check out the Ruckus 2.0 that's more in line with what I would recommend for you.

    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes i like GT I am A diehard GT fan as far as strength goes hows this one http://productcatalog.gtmountainbike...index.php?id=7
    or this one http://productcatalog.gtmountainbike...index.php?id=8
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
i have a pic of me a piers gorge
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
    what is the P.2
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
specialized P 1, 2,3. Check it out on specialized website. Used for urban stuff
    (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
you could also look into the out of bounds series by kona. the 2004 lineup has some pretty slick bikes that are in line with the specialized p series. if you are riding more aggressively, i would recommend something aside the one you are looking at. it appears to be more geared towards exclusively xc and it would suck if you busted something on it quickly. i think many people on here could vouch for the konas. i have never ridden one. i did enjoy the p2 that i rode though. however, i decided to bite the bullet and custom build my next ride instead.
