Hi, i was wondring if any one has had any experience with the CycleOps Mag/Magneto trainers vs. The CycleOps fluid ones. I was looking a the lowest fluid i blieve with progressive resistance. Are the magnetic ones noisy? i hear they are not too bad but a little loud while the fluid ones are very quiet. Any suggestions about these trainers would be very helpful
Thank!!

I have the Minoura Hyper Mag variable tension from the bars, and my wife has a Nashbar mag trainer.
I am not quite sure what you mean by "noisy." ?? Is there a baby asleep somewhere around? Otherwise, I don't think of them as noisy at all, but I don't know of your specific requirement of quiet and why. I can hear the Spinervals videos just fine, and the TV also???

Don't know about CycleOps. I have a fluid trainer with variable resistance. The variable resistance is unecessary. Once in a while I use it to fine tune my resistance, but I can get plenty of range just using my bike's gearing.
Fan/wind trainers are noisiest. I don't have experience w/mag trainers, but this is what Arnie Baker, M.D., cycling coach, and Cat 1 USCF racer says in "Smart Cycling":
"The 'magnet' seems lumpy. As effort and cadence increase the magnetic resistance does not vary, so you don't get the right 'road feel.' Mags feel easier to pedal as you work harder, rather than increasing their resistance."
Apparently the book (copr. 1996) was written before the advent of fluid trainers, because he doesn't comment on them.

I don't have alot of money(a new bike will do that to yah) but I need a trainer for the days I can't make it to the gym to use the bikes there. I'm looking at a CycleOps Wind. Reviews at roadbikereview are good, the only problem being the noise it creates.
What do you guys think? My main concern with it is whether or not it will create enough resistance.

I'm willing to bet that if you brought your bike to the LBS they would let you try the trainers out. Or maybe they would let you use one of the bikes they have there. Call them and ask. I have no experience with the mag trainers. I have a cvycleops fluid2 and can't complain, except that I prefer outdoor riding. The trainer can be boring but it beats not riding at all!

I have the CycleOps wind trainer. Plenty of resistance. Plenty of noise, too.

My local sports medicine therapist says you can usually get a real good trainer deal on E-Bay. New and used.

I bought a CycleOps Magneto in late September. I bought it to replace my old very noisy mag trainer. It does a great job of simulating actual road riding and is very quiet. I ride in the living room and my wife can watch TV without having to turn up the volume.
The LBS where I bought mine also had a CycleOps fluid and wind trainer set up so I got to try all three.
If you have the $$$ get the Magneto.

I just got my new "Magneto" last week.......BUT........wife won't let me use it until Christmas since it's my present from her(even though I ordered it)....LOL. I'll let ya know in a couple of weeks how I like it. (锕侊箒)~~~~----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have the cycleops mag trainer and have had no problems with it at all. I agree with most people, I can watch tv at a normal level and I am fine. now if I can only do something about the bordom on the bike.............

I use the Spinervals videos. Actually, I have TWO Tv's going. One on "mute" with the Spinerval video (which I know by heart, but the prompts are on the screen to keep me going) and the other on a local channel or whatever. The 45 minutes goes by pretty fast.
