How good these components really are? How do they compare to 105 and Ultegra? Better, worse in between?

I think these are about equivilant to Tiagra actually. (xenon/sora, mirage/tiagra, veloce/105, centaur/ultegra, chorus/dura ace, record....class of its own. That is typically considered the equivilants.)

The part I least like about this group is the plastic levers. We have a Colnago classic at my shop that is outfitted with Mirage but has Veloce levers on it. Not bad overall, the Veloce levers are worth the upgrade IMO.

Worse... Basicaly mirage is one step above their lowest group
From highest to lowest it goes Record, Chorus, Centaur, veloce, mirage, xenon. Depending who you talk to Centaur or Veloce would be equivlent to 105. I would say centaur, since centaur is their lowest line considered racing group.

I have used Mirage for a couple of years. It is all sound stuff even if the finsih is not as pretty as higher gruppos. The levers have a pressed steel core with moulded plastic. It is not as nice as the al levers, but the inards are all metal and very solid, no plasticky bits.

    Hi,
if we're talking about a new bike; your LBS can replace those levers with Veloce for a small charge.
