One long one, or two shorter ones... (shrug)

as many as you want.

5 per week on average is the best I can do.

If you're under 30, then ride all the time, build up your endurance. If it takes three per day, do three. But, although I occasionally do two per day, I usually stick to one. When done right, one is more than enough. I have several loops I do during the weekdays. Some take more effort, but all give me a good workout. Do what feels best.

I completely agree with y'all...and age does make the difference.

There's a trade off. If you're going to spend X hours on a bike a day you'll get more out of those hours if you do them all at once. However if you do two rides a day and take a nap in between you get a bonus in the form of extra growth hormones. I'd vary it based on your workouts, on rest days do long continuous rides, on workout days it will depend on the work out but the break/nap will probably be better.
...dont do more than two rides a day, you need a life too...

From my limited perusal of some cycling science books, you need to consider:
1) your fitness level, 2) the duration and difficulty level of the ride 3) how well you are able to replace your nutrients (ie, muscle energy stores) during and after the ride.
Of these, no 3 is the limiting factor--if you neglect the feed bag, nos 1 & 2 don't matter. Even Lance can't ride w/ an empty tank.

Unless you consider errands about town rides, then I would be happy if I could get in 5 rides per week...It is a matter how lengthy the ride is considered to be... I don't go on a real ride, unless it is at least 24 miles...( A ride up the closest considerable hill). Anything less is not a real ride.
Well, maybe once in a great while, I get in a 14 mile ride to the second closest Post Office, ATM machine.
Just going 2 miles to the second closest market to get milk is no ride.

Down hill to work, at a gentle place, No showers there.
Up hill home, and hammer the whole 11.86km!!

On days I work late, 2 rides, to and from work. On days I work early I have 3. Ride to work, ride home from work, change into cycling gear and change bikes then ride. On my days off sometimes one long one, sometimes 2 rides.

1 ride a day, unless I need to do errands that day, which can make it 2 rides. I have done 3 rides on rare occasions...

If a bike ride does not get your heart's pulse rate up.Well, then it is no ride. And at that, at LEAST for 30 minutes or why bother.

I commute to work on the bike, then back home. I also like to take an evening ride after dinner.
