  • The new GIZMO from Klein. Thoughts?
    By:admin
First of all, let me make clear the fact that when it comes to the mechanics of a bike, I'm terrible. Oh sure, I've learned not to call it a seat, it's a saddle. And I've learned not to call then rims, they're wheels. But I do not know all the terms of the parts of a road bike, so right up front, don't make fun of me because I don't know what to exactly call this!

    Having said that....

The owner of my LBS and mentor (a former racer from the 70's whom I trust with everything that makes up biking in my little world) rides a Klein and loves them. Some day he thinks it would make a good first real road bike for me. (Remember that now I ride a tricked up TREK 7500 hybird that is more like a road bike) I may shell out the money for a new roadie come spring.

Anyway, Klein has a model out now that he says I should ride come spring because he's going to have a demo bike in-shop in my size. He rode the bike already and says the ride is WONDERFUL compared to his current Klein, which was good to begin with.

Why the change? Well, they have installed some kind of little shock absorber in the piece of tube just above the rear fork before the saddle post. He says Trek is doing that now too....copied Klein on it. Klein has given it a name....some sort of 'system'....But he says it really make sense and provides a ride that eats up a lot of the little bumps in the road so much that you don't even feel them.

Thoughts? Anyone ride with this feature on their bike?

    Read all about it:

    EXACTLY!

    Now my question is two-fold:

    1. Anyone with a review here for me from the 'real world' who has been on this?
    2. I'm a rider who mainly goes out for 25-30 miles at a time, five days a week in season. I want speed and I want comfort. No long rides. Most I've ever done at one time is 40 miles. How about this type of Klein for me...possible match?

This bike does look like a good call for someone looking for a relatively plush ride in a relatively light bike.

My advice is to try and ride this new Klein along with a few other bikes. After that, you'll know better than us if it's the bike for you. Bike fit is so very important to comfort also. Good luck!

I'm just wondering from riders here in general about this 'shocked' road bike concept. My LBS has one in store. Saw it a couple of days ago when my guy first told me about getting it in. Sure LOOKS nice, buta lot of bikes look nice. Fit and ride for what you personally do is most important.

I get the feeling that racers, or racer wannabe's, won't like this concept because it's not a pure speed bike I bet.

It looks interesting to me, and if you're looking for speed, I don't think this will slow you down.

I like it. And Klein gives excellent customer service if it ever needs maintenance.
