- non-aero cable routing
- By:admin
- Can you route brake cables from non-aero brakes under the bar tape? Like have a little loop over your hands and then go under? Would the performance be significantly worse, from friction in the cable bend?

I assume you've got Shimano stuff? I've seen it done with Nokon cable housing. Run a search or two on this forum. It's been covered a time or two before. Right around TdF time it was a hot topic, as I recall. One of the T-Mobile guys did it, I think.

Cole Sure you know what non aero levers are? Your reference is to the shift casing on Shimano STI.

Hmmm. It seems I've been caught talking out of my ass.

Are they the old types? Like the old Modolo levers? Would the Nokon trick not work with those also?

I started to wonder wtf they were talking about when somebody mentioned the Tour de France. I think it's been a while since anyone on the tour rode with non-aero levers.

I'm using old modolo brake levers, yeah I guess the nokon or powerline stuff would work but that's really expensive. I may just give it a more gradual bend and then put it under the tape. We'll see what works.

get campy

I'm guessing it won't work out well and may end up getting in the way. Just curious why do you want to hide the brake lines?

Why not change to areo levers. I just checked ebay and saw three different sets for less than $20.

Cause aero is sooooo ugly

Erik Zabel's bikes in the Tour this year had Nokon housing out the side of the Shimano levers and bent immediately under the bar tape.
