  • new knees-- longer legs
    By:admin
I'm due to have two knee replacements in the near future and what I want to know is how much longer will this make my legs? This could give me problems re the size of my present frames. Can anyone give me some idea? George.

ummmm Troll bait? is this a serious question?

your doctor will probably tell you never to ride a bike again!! (which is BS, since we know that tis low impact.)
this is more of a medical question.. if you are actually going to get two new knees, Im sure you have a doctor (or 5) to talk to. ask them.
Id guess 2 to 3 feet longer.. Id try some 250mm cranks and a 3 foot seatpost for starters.

make sure you get the kevlar tendons while youre at it!

seriously, good luck with the operation.. its gonna hurt but push through the recovery/rehab and youll be set for many years to come.. think of the rehab as a giant hill youre cycling over.. grit it out!!

She gained about an inch or so in height, but only because her legs where no longer bowed because of her bad knees. She also put on a couple of pounds from the weight of the prosthetic knees. You'll always get hand searched at the airport too. Those things will set off the metal detector.

As far as your bike frame size, I don't think it'll be a problem. Just adjust the height of your seat.

"Troll bait"? I wish! The question is hardly a medical and can be answered I'm sure by quite a few of the posters I've read on here that have had the same operation. Having just bought a new bike you should be able to appreciate my concern if you're a cyclist as well as a wiseass. George.

yeah george sorry for thinking that this question was a troll.. Afterall, it is everyday that someone gets both knees replaced and asks his online biker pseudo friends about how much longer his legs are going to be.

I just thought that you would have asked your doctors first. Im suprised that they didnt clue you in to how much its going to change things for you.

    my bad!

I had both my knees replaced in 2004 and all it did was replace the joint damage
due to arthritis. The one thing that you WILL have to very careful of is falling
ON your joint implants. Falling or any ON knee activity that might loosen or tear
loose the joint implants is pure bad news. So from the time you get the implants
your life will be sorta different becuse you will always need to be aware of your
footing and where your are walking or riding. Dirt riding will be extemely risky
    to do.

My old bikes fit fine now that I can ride again. (Hoooooooray
