I'm thinking of cycling from Berlin, Germany, to Bugoynes, close to Kirkenes, in Finnmark, Norway. I'm not too concerned about reaching Bugoynes itself but it's more the Berlin-Stockholm bit that worries me: big roads, lots of tourists, especially since this would be in late August and the roads would be full of Scandinavians going back home from their holidays in Malaga, Naples and Mikonos. Any tips? Any roads to avoid, etc.? Any information is appreciated, especially from people who've cycled up there already! All the best,

Oh no no no my friend! No roads at all! There is a major bike path that takes you the whole way.
One question. Do you want to go through Jutland? Or head due north from Berlin to the coast, and then take the ferry direct to Sweden?

You could also go the other way from Berlin up to Tallinn ferry across the Gulf of Finland and then skirt eastern side of the Gulf of Bothnia in Finland. You could cycle around the Gulf of Finland through St. Petersburg but will need tourist visa for Russia. Or go the other way to Frederikshaven, Denmark take the ferry to Gothenburg then on to Stockholm (internal trains are restrictive in Sweden) then skirt the western side of the Gulf of Bothnia.

Hi dee hi, sorry for taking so long to reply, and thanks for your comments! Well, I was thinking about the most direct route, eheh, which seems to be from Berlin straight to Rostock, ferring to Trelleborg or somewhere, then up along the Swedish coast (there is a wee town 80kms due west of Stockholm, called Mariefred, that I would like to visit because Kurt Tucholsky is buried there). But your routes also sound good. Difficult choice!
