- Questions about oregon coast

- A friend and I are planning to rent bikes in Cannon Beach in July and ride south to the border. There is an LBS in coos bay who will pack and ship back to Cannon, and we can take the greyhound to portland but that sounds like a drag, and plus I want to get back to hook up with friends and Manzanita beach.
has anybody ever tried hitching back up the coast lately with and/or without bikes. It seems like a good shot.
any suggestions are appreciated. We are credit card touring and will book hotels and b and bs. Mike BS in Cannon Beach has been helpful for us so far.

Well, I can't weigh in on hitching back up the coast, but the Greyhound to Portland really, really sucks. A lot (unless you can get the express one from Eugene, but that doesn't sound very reasonable). I guess it would depend on how friendly you look--most of the hitchhikers I've encountered around here (Willamette Valley) are very bedraggled lookin' dudes.
How long are you planning for this trip?

You might try getting a ride from some on-line site, like Craig's list or couchsurfing.com.

You might want to check into a one-way vehicle rental. Last summer I toured (with my 13 year old son, brother, sister-in-law and 4 year old nephew) from the Canadian border to Cresent City,CA. After checking out several options to return to the Canadian border the one-way rental was the best compromise of cost and convenience. We mailed a bike rack to a LBS in Crescent City to carry the bikes on the trip back.

1 on one-way car rental. I ended a tour in norcal and rented a car back to SF, we put the 2 tour bikes & 8 panniers in the car.

Thanks for the quick advice RickL and Valygrl. It never occured to me to rent. I just reserved a car in Coos Bay (farthest south I could find one) on Enterprise, and as long as I drop it at a local location in portland it is only 45 bucks with no drop charge. (If I drop it at the airport it is 75 bucks more--fair enough)
